Water-Smart! European Solutions for a water smart society

Water Innovation Europe:

Water does not only have a great value for human health and well-beings, but it also drives job creation and economic growth in a society. The Sustainable Development Goals on water clearly reflect the value of water for our present and future.

Global challenges are showing a projected growth in water use, due to growing demand from manufacturing, energy and food production, and domestic use, while at the same time we are confronted with a declining water quality due to urban, industrial, and agricultural pollution. These challenges are amplified by water leakages, owing to the outdated infrastructures and complicated by the unpredictable effects of climate change.

Europe has the chance to turn these water challenges into new technological and societal opportunities and realise the true value of water by creating ‘Water-smart societies’. These societies will be built on the intersection of the physical and digital world with cities of the future, connecting services, infrastructures and people.  On this basis, Water Innovation Europe 2016 steps in to bring to light clever solutions on how to face the water-related global challenges and lay the foundations for ‘Water-Smart Societies’.
