Über die Veranstaltung

Umweltaktionsprogramme lenken seit Mitte der Siebzigerjahre die Umweltpolitik der Europäischen Union. Für die Mitgliedstaaten sind die Zielsetzungen der Umweltaktionsprogramme von hoher Relevanz: Rund 80 % der nationalen Gesetze im Umweltbereich gehen inzwischen auf Unionsrecht zurück. 

Das aktuelle 7. Umweltaktionsprogramm (7.UAP) mit dem Titel „Gut leben innerhalb der Belastbarkeitsgrenzen unseres Planeten“ wurde Ende 2013 verabschiedet und formuliert für neun Felder prioritäre Ziele, die bis 2020 erreicht werden sollen. Mit dem 7.UAP „soll die Umweltpolitik einen stärkeren Beitrag zu einem ressourceneffizienten und CO2-armen Wirtschaftssystem leisten, das das Naturkapital erhält und verbessert, die Gesundheit der Bürger schützt und ihr Wohlergehen sichert.“ 

Was lässt sich bisher über den Erfolg des Programms sagen? 

Am 13. Juni 2018 fand im Haus der Europäischen Union in Wien das Policy Forum „Shaping the Future of EU Environmental Policy: From the 7th to the 8th Environment Action Programme – Status, Challenges, and Next Steps“ statt. VertreterInnen von EU Kommission und Parlament, der Europäischen Umweltagentur (EEA), des World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), der österreichischen Politik und Verwaltung, NGOs sowie VertreterInnen aus den EU Mitgliedstaaten diskutierten gemeinsam mit den TeilnehmerInnen die bisherige Umsetzung des 7.UAP, zukünftige Herausforderungen der Umweltpolitik sowie Prioritäten eines 8. Umweltaktionsprogramms (8.UAP). Das Konferenzprogramm können Sie HIER herunterladen.

Since 1973, EU environmental policy making has been guided by Environment Action Programmes. They have given mandate and direction to the European Commission. The 7th Environment Action Programme (7EAP) runs till 2020 and preparations for an 8th Environment Action Programme (8EAP) have to start now, given that the decision making process, leading to an agreement with the European Parliament and the Council, takes time.

On 13th June 2018, the Policy Forum "Shaping the Future of EU Environmental Policy: From the 7th to the 8th Environment Action Programme – Status, Challenges, and Next Steps" took place in Vienna.

The aim of this policy forum was to explore the status of implementation of the 7EAP – at EU and Austrian levels – and to create a basis for discussing challenges for environmental policy in the next decade and what its priorities should be with regard to an 8th Environment Action Programme (8EAP). Participants were invited to actively contribute towards the development of an Action Plan for an 8EAP.
